We get asked this question a lot, and now that we're officially halfway through season 1, it's time to post a proper guide on how to "win" season 1 and claim the title of "Greatest Gumshoe."
1. What does "winning" mean?
To win season one, all you have to do is solve Mariah's murder. If you can do this before any of our other listeners, you'll be crowned the "Greatest Gumshoe" and receive a small prize.
2. I think I know who killed Mariah. How do I submit my guess?
Send us an email at greatestgumshoe@gmail.com. Make the subject line "S1: Mariah's Killer" so that your guess isn't overlooked. Make sure to substitute Mariah's Killer for your actual guess as to who the murderer is. So, for example, if you think Hector killed Mariah, you'll send us an email with the subject line "S1: Hector." That helps us sort through all the guesses much more easily.
3. What other details do I need to include in my "guess" email?
You'll need the following details in order to have a chance of winning. Make sure to be as specific and detailed as possible, but it all has to be correct as well.
The name of the murderer (Who killed Mariah Collins?)
Means (How did they kill Mariah?)
Motive (Why did this person kill Mariah?)
Timeline of Events (When was Mariah killed? This part can be tricky, but you'll want to provide your best guess. Specific dates/times are nice, but general timelines are okay too. For example, "on the way to the grocery store that Monday" or "after she dropped the kids off at school but before soccer" would be acceptable if that's your best guess given the clues provided.)
Your "Damning Evidence" (This part is the most flexible and will likely vary considerably even between "correct" answers. We want to know what brought you to your conclusions. Was it the way that a certain suspect dodged their interview? A footprint left at the scene? Pick your most compelling argument and share it with us.)
4. Can I submit more than one guess?
Nope. You only get one guess for each season. So you'll need to be a bit strategic on when to submit your guess.
5. What happens if nobody guesses correctly?
In the event that no one gets all the details of Mariah's murder correct, we'll be awarding the next best guess with the title of Greatest Gumshoe for season one. A good guess might name the correct suspect and provide excellent damning evidence but be a little off on motive or the timeline of events.
